Why Data Science?

Why Data Science?

Why data science?

Huh.

I don’t know.

Well, I have some reasons why I decided to pursue data science with my Covid free time as opposed to the million other subjects that magical facebook ads want to teach me while I don’t have a job. They may not be valid, but these are some of the reasons I’m going in this direction:

  1. I can do the work on my computer. I’m pretty good with people for short stints. But I like to hide behind a screen.
  2. That means that perhaps I can work remotely. I like living in Cambodia. But there are very few jobs here. Hopefully there are data-sciency things I can do from afar.
  3. The job itself, whatever job that might be, looks like a good bit of math and logic. I like math and logic, though I haven’t had a math class in decades and most of my decision-making has been very illogical.
  4. If I don’t go the data science route, at least I’ll come out with other skills. Python is pretty fun. And we’ll see what else I learn.
  5. Money. I know that with only a Coursera MOOC background I won’t be competing for real data science jobs, but if I can make like 20% of what those jobs make… I’ll live fine out here in Cambodia.
  6. Courses are free, so far. Coursera’s financial aid is awesome!

I guess that’s all I can think of right now. I’ll add more in the comments if I think of them.

Does any of this make sense?
